Removes tax exempt status of “books, magazines, periodicals, newspapers, and access to on-line information systems sold to publicly supported state, county, or regional libraries”.
Fiscal Impact: County Libraries would have to allocate a significant portion of their materials budget to pay sales tax that otherwise would have been used to purchase books (physical or digital).

Per Beaufort County Library Director, the fiscal impact of this bill is concerning. Approximately $60,000 of the BCL budget would be spent on sales tax instead of book, magazine, newspaper, or digital purchases.
